Volunteer Expo
Deep Roots Music Cooperative participated in the Volunteer Expo organized by the
Valley Volunteer Coalition on April 13 at Kingstec. We believe the exposure of
the Cooperative and Festival was very positive. The folks staffing the 40
booths outnumbered the visitors, but these people are active in the community
and supportive of many efforts, certainly including ours.
Office on Main Street and HELP!
The office downstairs at The Box of Delights is coming together. It is the
first time we have had a space months before the festival and time to empty the
boxes and think about DRMC issues before we are overwhelmed by the festival. As
I have sorted through the boxes and computer files, I see a variety of ways
hands on help would be appreciated.
1. We have a DIY cabinet that is very useful but has never been painted.
It looks rather sad but could have a renewed life with a coat of paint.
2. We have ? of the window space at The Box of Delights. It would be great
to have a volunteer to take on the task of changing the display each week from
June 1 to the festival.
3. Last year in Parrsboro I visited an exhibition on the 25th year of the
Ship?s Company Theatre. They have a volunteer who has collected info on the
theatre since its inception and prepared wonderful scrapbooks. It would be
great to have someone with an archivist?s bent to put this info together.
4. It would be great to have someone help mounting posters on foam board.
If anyone wants to offer their hands, please email office at deeprootsmusic.ca
Volunteers
Why do people help out at our festival? Because you get a great feeling to be
part of such a production. Adrenaline courses through our bodies to solve
problems, enjoy music, and generally be proud of being part of a great event.
Mounting the Deep Roots Music Festival is only possible through the efforts of
its volunteers and we have many who return year after year. But at some point
volunteers move on. This year we are looking for new folks to be trained to take
over the kitchen operation and billeting. (Our incumbent for billeting has
handled this for every festival!) With the maturation of the festival,
procedures are in place and (in theory) the job becomes more routine.
If you are interested, please check out the website (
http://www.deeprootsmusic.ca) and apply.
Embroidered DRMC logo looks great on jackets and more!
Our fundraising group is planning to make more fleeces to sell at Deep Roots
Music Festival this year - did you see them last year? We sold polar fleece or
cotton hoodies, jackets and vests (second hand but not showing any signs of
wear) embroidered with the DRMC guitar logo.
We also want to offer to have our logo embroidered on items of your choice, for
a reasonable fee. (Li has a DRMC towel, housecoat, flannelette shirt and
baseball cap!!) If you have something you want us to send out when we send our
festival order for embroidering, let us know.
So - Search Frenchy's, search your closets! Help us find this year's stock for
festival swag, or just get something embroidered for yourself. If you have a
suitable polar fleece or cotton hoodie, jacket or vest to donate, or some other
item you think would look great with the DRMC logo, please let us know by
emailing office at deeprootsmusic.ca.

Ryan Cook sings Hank Williams - at Union Street Saturday, May 1st
Meagan and Jenny have booked an exciting show for Saturday May 1st at the Union

"Ryan Cook's channelling of Hank Williams--his voice and heartache--is a moving
experience. A terrific performance by this young artist and his band." - Harry
Thurston, award-winning Author/Poet
Ryan Cook is an award winning songwriter and performer who has performed on some
of the same stages as Hank including the Ryman Auditorium, and Ernest Tubb
Midnight Jamboree in Nashville, TN. Ryan has studied Hank Williams life and
character through the biographical work of Colin Escott and many other
biographers of Hank's life and story. He has been performing as Hank Williams
since the summer of 2009 when he performed three sold-out weeks of the Maynard
Collins play "The Show He Never Gave" at the Live Bait Theatre in Sackville, NB
Canada.
Ryan will be performing with his band including Andrew Sneddon, Adam Pye, and
Brad Reid. Tickets are $15 and show starts at 9. Please e-mail

Steve Poltz CD release at Al Whittle Theatre ? Wednesday May 12th
This is a special concert to celebrate the release of Steve Poltz's new CD,
"DREAMHOUSE", produced by his friend and fan, Joel Plaskett.
After two appearances at the Deep Roots Music Festival and two more fantastic
solo performances, Steve Poltz has established himself as one of Wolfville's
favourite artists, even though he lives in San Diego, California.
If you've already experienced a Poltz concert, you know you can expect a renewed
whirlwind of emotions and surprises. If you've never seen Steve Poltz, well, we
believe you should...
