Help Deep Roots with STRATEGIC PLANNING
Beginning in October, the Deep Roots Music Cooperative is pleased to be teaming
with the Acadia Centre for Social and Business Entrepreneurship to enter into a
strategic planning process. Through this process, the Deep Roots Board - with
extensive input from our partners, members, and other stakeholders - will work
together to envision the next 3-5 years for the Cooperative. We will re-evaluate
the achievement of our past goals, and establish new goals and priorities that
reflect our strengths and opportunities. When finished, we expect to have a
strong plan to heighten the Cooperative's impact on both the local region and
the music community.
We need your help. The Board and ACSBE realize that a planning process that does
not incorporate many opinions would be incomplete. We depend on the insights and
opinions of the Cooperative's stakeholders like you. Please take a half hour (or
less!) to answer questions at the following website:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=cqWI31CISsd_2bsIZAK_2bjdJg_3d_3d

join the fun!) Parade-prep workshops include Making Fancy Hats and Crowns, Beat
your Own Drum (making rhythm instruments from recycled materials) and Wee Giant

Pete Seeger's Documentary Film: THE POWER OF SONG
Pete Seeger's documentary film, THE POWER OF SONG, will be screened at the Al
Whittle Theatre on Wednesday, September 23, 7:00 pm. This reflective documentary
explores the legacy of revered American folk singer and activist Seeger -
written and directed by filmmaker Jim Brown when Seeger was in his late '80s. In
lieu of recounting the narrative of Seeger's life note-for-note, however, Brown
uses that individual biography as a contextual lens, through which he recounts
decades of American social history. To tell his story, the filmmaker
interpolates original, exclusive interviews with such Seeger contemporaries as
Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, archival footage of Seeger in concert, and
extracts from Seeger's private home movies. In the process, Brown unveils the
extent to which Seeger continually prompted societal change through his
consciousness-raising music and offstage social efforts.
This is the first in the Fundy Film Society's current series of documentary
films. More information on the Fundy Film Society's current season may be found
at http://www.fundyfilm.ca

Billet Homes Needed!!!!
We are still in need of homes to billet performers. We have a lot of large
groups this year. If you are able to billet up to 3 people (or can with the help
of a neighbour!) please contact Jennine Wilson at 542-9649. Also if you live on
Sherwood Drive, I have a group of 8 and I have places for 5 of them, staying in
homes on Sherwood. It would be great to keep them close together. Please, please
contact me if you can help!
